Big Rig Crash Kills Truck Driver on Pennsylvania Turnpike

A crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Lehigh County killed a truck driver Monday afternoon.

Two trucks crashed on the northbound side of the Turnpike's Northeast Extension in Lower Macungie shortly after noon.

A Lehigh County coroner pronounced 43-year-old Larry Woody of Middletown, Delaware, dead at the scene, said the coroner's office.

Rescue crews and accident investigators shut down the northbound side of the highway at mile marker 53.1 during the early afternoon.

Police cleared the debris and worked to open lanes in time for the afternoon rush. The roadway remained closed for hours before police opened one lane shortly before 4 p.m. About 45 minutes later, police reopened all lanes.

An autopsy would be performed Monday to determine Woody's cause of death.
