Fire at Bethlehem SteelStacks

Plumes of thick black smoke billowed up to the sky at the Bethlehem SteelStacks Tuesday afternoon.

Workers were using welding equipment in one of the former blast furnaces when some grease inside caught fire, according to deputy fire marshal Robert Novatnack.

Luckily no one was reported injured.

The small  fire inside blast furnace "C" was extinguished by a team of 16 firefighters using water and chemicals, officials said. No other buildings were damaged.

SteelStacks is the new arts and cultural campus, located on several acres of the old Bethlehem Steel Mill in Bethlehem, Pa.
