Bed and Breakfasts Give Free Rooms to Vets

Active and retired military members across the country are spending Wednesday night for free at a bed and breakfast.

It’s all part of the “B-and-B’s for Vets,” a special Veteran’s Day program that nearly 900 inns nationwide have taken part in.

“It’s just nice that they do appreciate what we do,” said Captain Lenore Hackenyos of the Delaware Air National Guard.

The program began in 2009 in West Virginia. This year it expanded to 49 states and several international locations.

“Under the atmosphere we’re in sometimes, this is a delightful experience,” said Vietnam vet Donald Ziro, who’s staying at North Wildwood’s Candlelight Inn.

Mark Kulkowitz, the owner of Carroll Villa B&B where Lenore is staying, was excited to be involved. Both himself and his 86-year-old father are army veterans.

“It’s a great thing to honor the people who have dedicated some part of their lives to helping preserve our way of life,” said Mark.
