Bank Teller Stole $90K From Elderly Accounts: DA

A prosecutor says a since-fired teller at a Pittsburgh savings and loan stole more than $90,000 by making unauthorized withdrawals from elderly customers' accounts.

Online court records don't list an attorney for 51-year-old Lori Burleigh who surrendered Wednesday on theft and related charges filed by the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office.

According to a criminal complaint, officials at Progressive Home Federal Savings & Loan first became suspicious when a customer called with questions about her account, and Burleigh insisted on taking the call in the thrift's basement.

Later, officials found $4,000 missing from Burleigh's teller drawer, and she told them a customer had just withdrawn the money but she hadn't processed the transaction yet. Burleigh later went to the customer's home and tried to get him to accept $4,000, but he refused and reported it to the bank.
