Baby Sitter Charged in Death of Philly-Area Child

The story the baby sitter told does not match the 2-year-old's fatal injuries, authorities say

Authorities in suburban Philadelphia have charged a baby sitter in the death of a 2-year-old boy.

The Delaware County Daily Times says David Miller Jr. of Upper Chichester was rushed to a hospital Dec. 11 and died the following day. Authorities said he had head and brain injuries.

Twenty-three-year-old Heather Lynn Hess was charged Friday with criminal homicide, first- and third-degree murder, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and involuntary manslaughter.

Delaware County prosecutors said in court documents that the defendant said she found the child unconscious with a bottle cap in his throat and tried to revive him, but medical staff said that wouldn't account for his injuries.

A listed number for Hess could not be found Saturday; it was unclear whether she had an attorney.
