Mom of Abandoned Baby in Box Gets Drug Rehab

Mother who left baby in box in North Philly sent to rehab

A year after a newborn girl was found in a cardboard box on a North Philadelphia street, a judge ruled that the mother would be sent to a drug rehabilitation program.

Patricia Crawley, 34, will be paroled to rehab for 11-1/2 to 23 months and will then have to report to a probation officer for seven years. Common Pleas Judge Alice Beck Dubow also ruled Crawley will have to perform 80 hours of community service.

Crawley was convicted in October of endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault and reckless endangerment, but was found not guilty of the more serious charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

A custodian found the baby, named “Baby Noel,” Dec. 21, 2011, near a pile of trash outside a day care center at 27th and Huntingdon Streets.
