Baby, Mom Among 3 Shot in NJ

Police say a 1-year-old girl and her mother are among three people who suffered gunshot wounds after someone opened fire on a city street.

The Asbury Park Press reports that the injuries to the baby, her 29-year-old mother and a 19-year-old man are not life-threatening. The baby was hit on the leg beneath a diaper. It happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say 13 to 15 bullets were fired and that the woman and child were innocent bystanders. It wasn't immediately clear how the man was involved.

Resident Kathy Acevedo says she was indoors when the ``pop, pop, pop'' of gunfire made her dive to the floor for safety. She says children were outside playing when the shooting started.

An investigation is continuing.
