The aunt and uncle of a 5-year-old Pennsylvania boy found beaten to death in his bed are charged with killing him, while his parents -- who left the boy in their care -- face related charges.
Elk County District Attorney Shawn McMahon announced the criminal homicide and other charges against 25-year-old Scott Murphy and 35-year-old Kristy Murphy on Thursday.
Their nephew, O'Ryan Murphy, had been living with them in a squalid Ridgway apartment with no heat since December. The boy was found beaten to death Feb. 3.
The boy's parents, 26-year-old Daniel Murphy and 23-year-old Ashlee Druhot, are charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangerment charges for leaving the boy with the Murphys and not checking on him, despite knowing the other couple used drugs and had violent tendencies.
None of the jailed defendants has an attorney.
