Crews Pull Unconscious Woman, 21, From Atlantic Ocean Near Jetty

A 21-year-old woman was left in critical condition after being rescued out of the water near a jetty in Atlantic City.

Fire Chief Scott Evans told the Press of Atlantic City emergency crews received a report of a woman drowning at the Rhode Island Avenue beach at about 6:10 p.m. Monday.

He said rescue teams were deployed on jet skis and found the woman unconscious after 10 minutes of searching. Officials said crews brought her to shore and performed CPR before she was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

Evans said the woman's sister broke her leg when she ran on the jetty to look for the victim.

He said lifeguards went off duty at 6 p.m. and the beach was unguarded at the time of the incident.
