A man convicted of sexually assaulting or trying to assault several women in Atlantic City during the summer of 2012 has been sentenced to 46 years in prison.
Hiten Patel must serve more than 38 years before he becomes eligible for parole under the sentence imposed this week.
He was convicted in February 2014 on 22 criminal counts, including multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, making terroristic threats, criminal restraint and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
The 36-year-old Egg Harbor Township man continued to maintain his innocence during his sentencing Thursday.
During his trial, Patel said most of his accusers were prostitutes he had solicited or been solicited by for paid consensual sex.
Prosecutors argued that Patel targeted prostitutes because they were less likely to go to police.
