Athletic Director Had Sex in Office Closet with Student: DA

Jenkintown School District athletic director had a sexual relationship with a high school student for six months, district attorney says.

The athletic director for a Montgomery County School District has been arrested after a former high school student told police that she had a sexual relationship with the man, which included oral sex in his office and sexual intercourse in his closet, authorities say.

Mark Citron, of Philadelphia, had a six-month-long sexual relationship with a then-17-year-old Jenkintown High School student, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Furman. Citron surrendered to police Tuesday.

Citron, the 43-year-old athletic director and assistant to the principal of Jenkintown High School, has been charged with corruption of minor, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal use of a communications facility after police investigated an anonymous tip about the alleged affair that came in through Childline.

Based on information from the anonymous Childline call, police found the alleged victim who is now 19 years old, Furman says. The victim told police that she had a sex with Citron from January to June 2010, authorities say.

After reviewing Citron’s phone records, police discovered about 900 text messages between Citron and the girl, according to Furman.

Citron is married, sources tell NBC10 Philadelphia.

In a letter sent home to parents Tuesday, the Jenkintown School District Board of Directors said that Citron has been suspended without pay pending a recommendation from the school board that he be fired.

“An employee having an inappropriate relationship with a student is absolutely unacceptable and
will not be tolerated by the District,” the letter states.

Citron was arraigned and his bail was set at $250,000.
