As Region Braces For First Frigid Burst of the Season, Counties Issue a Code Blue

Several local counties have issued a Code Blue as temperatures for the first time this winter are expected to stay around the freezing mark.

A Code Blue in Montgomery County began at 9 p.m. Sunday and will continue through 9 a.m. Wednesday, officials said. Code Blue advisories go into effect when air temperatures and wind chills are expected to dip below 20 degrees.

Officials work to get any homeless people without shelter off the streets during the period of dangerous cold, and residents in need of shelter are encouraged to go to the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center at Norristown State Hospital's Building 53 or contact 610-292-9244 for placement in a shelter.

Bucks County also issued a Code Blue that went into effect 7 p.m. Sunday and will last through Wednesday at 7 a.m. CLICK HERE for information on shelters.

Cumberland County in New Jersey also issued a Code Blue that will go into effect Monday night and Tuesday night. CLICK HERE for information on shelters.

On Monday, Camden County, New Jersey, issued a Code Blue beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting overnight, and going into effect again overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday. Anyone seeking shelter is urged to call 800-999-9045.
