‘Arsonist' Responsible for NJ Forest Fires: Fire Warden

NJ's Fire Warden says the fires were set between Thursday evening and Friday morning

New Jersey's acting fire warden says two fires that burned 400 acres in the Pinelands last week were set deliberately.

Michael Drake tells The Philadelphia Inquirer that evidence collected from the scenes about a mile apart clearly indicates they were the work of an arsonist or arsonists.

Drake says the fires were set between Thursday evening and Friday morning in the area of the Winslow Wildlife Management Area in Camden County. They were reported within a span of about 90 minutes on Friday morning.

The larger of the two burned 375 acres alongside the Atlantic City Expressway. Both fires were contained by Sunday.

Smoke was visible in Atlantic City 30 miles to the east and Trenton, about 35 miles to the north. The fires didn't threaten any homes or property.
