Arrest Made in West Philly Tire Slashings

The tires on 59 cars were slashed last week as residents slept.

An arrest has been made for the tire slashings in West Philadelphia last week, according to Philadelphia police.

The suspect is identified as Harry Gaines, 27, who is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal mischief and other charges.

The slashings occured before dawn on Monday, January 7 on the 4700 to 5000 block of Hazel Avenue and on the 5300 block of Chancellor.

Surveillance video showed a man and woman walking down the street around 5:30 a.m., the same time the tires on 59 cars were slashed. The video also shows the man bending over to puncture two tires and cutting more tires as he makes he way down the street.
