Arrest Made in Mother, Daughter Murders

An arrest has been made in the murders of a mother and her daughter more than six months ago in Lehigh County.

Brandin Lee Kasick, 26, was arrested on Sunday night in Florida for the murders of Althea Walbert, 82, and her mentally disabled daughter, Jeanette, 59, who were found dead in their Alburtis home on the morning of March 11, 2011. The cause of death was severe blunt force trauma to the neck, according to authorities.

Police confirmed in a press conference Monday morning that Kasick worked for Chem Dry, a carpet cleaning business, and that he cleaned the rugs at the Cobblestone Court home and was familiar with the women.

DNA evidence linked Kasick to the deaths.

Shortly after the murders, Kasick moved to Florida where he lived in a homeless community until his arrest.

Authorities believe that robbery was the motive for the killings. They say Althea was known to keep large amounts of cash in her purse.

The suspect's charges include criminal homicide and robbery.
