Armed Robber Assaults 7-11 Clerk, Officer: Cops

Police arrested a man who they say robbed a 7-11 in Wilmington Sunday morning.

Police say Brian Brown, 30, entered the 7-11 store on Greenhill Avenue with a dark hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head. Brown allegedly jumped over the counter, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. He then assaulted the clerk, removed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and fled the scene, according to investigators.

Police say they analyzed surveillance footage of the robbery and were provided a detailed description. Later that day, Brown was spotted by two officers while driving a black Kia Rio. The officers stopped the car on W. 7th and N. DuPont Streets and confronted Brown and his female passenger, April Stiner, according to police.

When they attempted to take Brown into custody, he allegedly began to fight one of the officers before he was apprehended. Police say Brown and the officer were both injured in the scuffle. They were both taken to Wilmington Hospital where they were treated and released.

Police say they located a black pellet gun inside Brown’s vehicle and other evidence linking him to the robbery. Brown is a parolee and was found to have an outstanding burglary arrest as well as two capiases for violating his probation, according to investigators.

Police also say Stiner confessed to driving the getaway vehicle in the robbery.

Brown and Stiner are both being held pending arraignment. Officials have not yet released any bail information.
