Police are searching for three alleged burglars who they believe targeted the wrong house.
On Wednesday around 3:30 a.m., Middle Township Police responded to a report from a man claiming he received an alarming Twitter message from a friend indicating that her family was robbed.
Police responded to the woman’s home on the 100 block of West Main Street in Whitesboro, New Jersey. When they arrived, they found a mother and her 17-year-old and 19-year-old children bound with zip ties and duct tape.
The family told police that three men wearing masks broke into their home and robbed them at gunpoint. The men allegedly attacked the 19-year-old man and broke his nose in the process. They left with numerous electronic items and an undetermined amount of cash, according to investigators.
The 19-year-old was treated at the Cape Regional Medical Center and released.
Police say further investigation revealed that the suspects misidentified the house and were actually looking for someone who lived in a different home. They also believe the robbery was an isolated incident with the intended target being a specific individual.
