High school teachers voted to accept the Archdiocese's contract offer during a meeting in Penn's Landing on Monday.
Negotiators for Philadelphia's lay Catholic school teachers and the archdiocese announced the tentative agreement in a joint statement on Sunday.
Teachers will receive across-the-board increases in each of the three years: $1,300, $1,400 and $1,600. It's 8.3 percent over the course of the contract.
The meeting began at 10 a.m. on Monday at Penn's Landing Catering. Classes for Philadelphia-area Catholic High School students will resume on Tuesday now that teachers have voted to accept the terms of the contract.
Catholic high schools serving more than 16,000 students started closing last Wednesday.
The strike began Sept. 6 after teachers rejected a contract proposal that they said threatens their job security. Teachers had opposed provisions regarding sick leave, the planned use of part-time instructors and displacement of teachers affected by school closings.
Church officials say the contract needed to be modernized to give students a 21st-century education.
The new three-year contract provides job security for teachers and insures that part-time teachers can't replace full-time instructors. Teachers will also receive across the board increases in each of the three years.
The 711 lay instructors, who are represented by the union, are expected to return to their schools Monday afternoon to prepare for the arrival of students on Tuesday.
