Another Pot Site Comes Before NJ Government

Another medical marijuana facility is headed for a hearing in New Jersey.

Breakwater Alternative Treatment Center wants to grow pot for patients on a preserved farm in Upper Freehold.

The nonprofit group has applied to the community's zoning board for permission to grow marijuana in greenhouses on the farm. But it's expected to be a hot topic at Thursday's township committee meeting.

Some neighbors are upset that marijuana could be grown on the farm. The group has not yet announced where it plans to set up a dispensary.

Breakwater is one of six groups the state chose to grow and sell marijuana to qualifying patients. So far, two have announced that they have approvals for locations. At least two others have been rejected by local governing bodies.
