An elementary school in New Jersey's capital city has received a surprise gift of about $10,000 in supplies courtesy of e-commerce giant Amazon.
Teachers at Trenton's Grant Elementary School gathered in a meeting room Tuesday afternoon after classes were dismissed thinking they were attending a staff meeting.
A spokeswoman for the Seattle-based online retailer told the teachers they wanted to help ease the financial burden teachers face by helping them get the necessary resources. The spokeswoman then revealed supplies including markers, tablets, robotics and electronics.
District officials say the names of 10 schools in the financially strained district were put into hat with a chance to win the gifts. Grant won the lottery.
Principal Alfonso Llano says every teacher with a homeroom will get supplies.
