Alleged ‘Stoning' Killer Held for Trial

Man who allegedly beat 70-year-old Murray Seidman to death is being held for trial

The man who allegedly beat 70-year-old Murray Seidman to death with a sock full of rocks waived his preliminary hearing Thursday and was ordered to be held for a first-degree murder trial.

John Joe Thomas, 28, allegedly killed Seidman in January. Thomas befriended the Lansdowne man, who had the mental capacity of a second grader, and convinced the 70-year-old to make him power of attorney, according to Seidman’s brother Lenny Seidman.

Police found Murray’s body on Jan. 12, days after he was murdered. Thomas told police that he killed Seidman because of sexual advances that were anti-Biblical and told them that he returned to Seidman’s apartment several days later to make it appear like he just discovered the body.
