Alleged South Philly Car Vandals Arrested

Three people were arrested over the weekend and charged with vandalizing dozens of cars in a South Philadelphia neighborhood.

Police say Bianca Beck, 23; David Whitfield, 27; and David Baker, 29, are responsible vandalizing 39 parked cars along the 700 and 800 blocks of South 18th and South 19th Streets -- as well as surrounding streets from Bainbridge to Catherine Streets -- early Friday morning.

Tires were slashed on more than 35 cars and at least three cars were keyed, according to police. One neighbor said a gay slur was scrawled on his car.

The three suspects were captured on surveillance video walking in the area around 3:45 a.m. Police say after releasing the video on Friday they received numerous tips which led to the arrests.

David Baker, Bianca Beck and David Whitfield are accused of vandalizing cars in the gRaduate Hospital area of Philadelphia.

"This is a serious crime. It's not the most violent but it's one that cost people money, in some situations money they don't have to spend," Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford said during a press conference Saturday night.

Initially police were looking for four people but after an investigation they determined the fourth person seen in the video -- wearing a purple shirt -- had been walking alone and was not with the suspects, according to police.

All three were charged with criminal mischief and related charges.
