Caught on Cam: Man Steals Air Conditioning Unit

Police release surveillance video of a man disconnecting an AC unit from a Kensington backyard

Philadelphia Police need the public’s help to identify a man they say was caught on camera stealing an air conditioning unit from the yard of a Kensington home.

In surveillance video released by police, the alleged thief can be seen in the backyard of a home on the 2400 block of Amber Street the morning of April 4 tugging at, kicking and eventually disconnecting the air conditioning unit but not until sparks come from the wall where the unit was connected causing the man jump backwards.

Multiple times during the theft the man is seen looking up and around.

Police describe the man in the video as a white male between 25 to 30 years old with black hair about 5-feet-7-inches tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing a gray jacket and black pants at the time of the theft, cops said.

Anyone with information on the theft or who recognizes the man in the video is asked to call Philly Police East Detective Division at 215-685-9854, call 215.686.TIPS, text 773847 or submit an anonymous tip online.
