Acupuncturist Claire McManus treats an injured sea turtle at the New England Aquarium's animal care center in Quincy, Mass. The Philadelphia Zoo is now also using the procedure to heal ill animals.

The Philadelphia Zoo reports it's having success using acupuncture to treat some ailing animals.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Saturday (http://bit.ly/1bPTtjh) that zoo officials are impressed with how the technique has sped up the healing of a 9-year-old swan that has suffered with an infected lump on his pink foot for more than three years.

The swan, named Jackson, has even had surgery, but zoo veterinarian Donna Ialeggio says the healing has been visible week by week since the zoo called in Christina Fuoco, a private vet who is trained in acupuncture.
