The Press of Atlantic City reports the chase started around 4 a.m. Saturday, when an officer witnessed an accident involving a pickup truck driven by 27-year-old city resident Nepthali Ramirez.

Police say Ramirez drove off but was soon spotted by another officer. He continued driving and cut through a parking lot, but was soon confronted by two other officers who got out of their cruiser and tried to stop him.

But Ramirez ignored their directives and drove off, hitting their cruiser and two parked vehicles as he fled.

One officer was injured when the cruiser's door hit him during the collision. He was treated at a hospital and released later Saturday.

Shortly after fleeing the scene, Ramirez allegedly collided head-on with another police cruiser, but the officer driving the car was not hurt. Ramirez tried to flee on foot after the crash, authorities said, but was soon captured.

Ramirez was being treated at a hospital for minor injuries, and his bail was set at $30,000. It was not known if he had retained a lawyer.

Ramirez faces several charges, including two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, as well as numerous motor vehicle citations.
