Academics Investigating Student's Complaints

Academics with expertise in labor law are in Hershey, looking into complaints that led foreign students on a summer cultural exchange program to walk off the job this week at a plant that serves The Hershey Co.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reported Friday that the team planned private meetings with students who stopped working on Wednesday at a distribution center run by Hershey vendor Exel Inc.

The students say their hopes to see parts of the United States were dashed by strenuous labor at the facility that leaves them exhausted and earns them very little money.

The U.S. State Department is also looking into their complaints.

Exel says it's going to stop using the student workers next month.

Students are expected to join demonstrations Friday in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
