AG, Defense Requesting Documents Before Sandusky Trial

Each side asking for access to records on witnesses and alleged victims

Pennsylvania prosecutors on Tuesday asked for advance notice if Jerry Sandusky's defense lawyers plan to call any expert witnesses during his upcoming child sex-abuse trial.

The motion said the attorney general's office wants to be able to review before trial any reports or other evidence the defense might present from expert witnesses.

They want to see “any results or reports of physical or mental examinations, or results or reports of any scientific tests or experiments made in connection with this case.” For any experts who have not produced reports, prosecutors are asking for the subject matter on which they may testify, facts and sources for those facts, and a summary of their opinions along with materials that were consulted in formulating opinions.

A Patriot-News report said Tuesday is the deadline for Sandusky’s defense team to receive background information about eight alleged victims, from a number of school districts and state agencies. The Second Mile, founded by Sandusky, was among those cited as part of the inquiry.

Sandusky, 68, a former assistant football coach at Penn State, is due to be tried next month on 52 criminal counts for alleged abuse of 10 boys over 15 years. He has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Jury selection is scheduled to get under way at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte on June 5.
