Prosecutors Indict A.C. Teen in Elderly Man Murder

Suspect was a minor at the time of the brutal beating but is now being charged as an adult

On Wednesday police indicted an 18-year-old Atlantic City man for allegedly killing a 71-year-old man over the summer.

Jonathan Perez allegedly struck Alfred Kessleski over the head with a milk crate outside of Kessleski's Atlantic Avenue home just before 2 a.m. on July 29, 2011.

Kessleski was found kicked, punched and bloodied after being struck over the head with a milk crate outside his home, according to Atlantic County Prosecutors.

The teen suspect then allegedly took Kessleski's wallet.

Kessleski was taken to the hospital in critical condition with broken ribs, a fractured skull and other injuries. He died from head trauma a few days later on Aug. 2, officials said.

Perez, 17 at the time of the crime, was arrested and charged with murder, robbery and a weapon charge.

In September a judge ruled that Perez would be tried as an adult even though he was a minor at the time of the crime. The teen could face life in prison if he is found guilty.

The teen was being held in a juvenile detention center. He has since been moved to the county jail.
