AC Expressway Construction Should Be Done Before Summer

An 11-mile stretch of the toll road is being widened from two to three lanes.

The agency that operates the Atlantic City Expressway says road widening and toll plaza improvements should be completed before Memorial Day, the traditional start of the summer tourist season.

An 11-mile stretch of the toll road is being widened from two to three lanes between the Garden State Parkway interchange and milepost 18.3 south of Hammonton.

The project also includes construction of two express E-ZPass lanes in each direction at the Egg Harbor Toll Plaza.

South Jersey Transportation Authority chief engineer Samuel Donelson tells The Press of Atlantic City that about 65 percent of the motorists who pass through the toll plaza use the E-ZPass electronic toll system. They'll no longer have to slow to 15 mph.

The 44-mile toll road between Atlantic City and Philadelphia is heavily used by summer vacationers.
