9-Year-Old Phils Fan Fights for Life in Cali Hit and Run

The boy, who is from Philly, was in San Fran for the Phillies, Giants game when he was injured by a drunk driver.

San Francisco police confirm that a 9-year-old boy seriously injured in a hit and run on Thursday in California is from Philadelphia.

The 9-year-old victim was in San Francisco for Thursday night’s Phillies game against the Giants, according to police.

Police say the child ran ahead of a family member and was crossing the street around 10:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota pickup driven by Andrew Vargas.

The driver fled the scene and proceeded to collide with numerous parked cars.

A "be on the look out" message was sent to bay area law enforcement agencies for the pickup truck with possible front end damage.

Police stopped Vargas in the nearby town of Haywood about an hour later, his blood alcohol level was over the legal limit. Authorities detained the drunk driver and impounded the pickup.

The victim was rushed to an area hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A second victim was also hurt in the hit and run. A 58-year-old woman from Grante Bay was taken to the hospital where she is being treated for a foot injury.
