Young Boy Dies After Being Shot Inside Home

ME says 4-year-old suffered gunshot wound to the forehead

A family is mourning the loss of a young boy after he was shot inside his home.

Michael DeSantis, 4, suffered a single gunshot wound to the middle of his forehead Wednesday afternoon, officials say.

DeSantis was playing his favorite game with several friends around 1:30 p.m. inside his home located along the 300 block of Chestnut Street in Royersford, Pa. when the shooting occurred, sources say.

Sources tell NBC Philadelphia the boy had many toy guns, but this time a real gun was used to play the game.

The young boy was brought to Pottstown Memorial Hospital and died before he could be flown to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The family gathered at Pottstown Memorial after the boy's death.

Investigators say it is currently unclear if the boy or someone else pulled the trigger. They do say he wouldn't have been able to load the .44-caliber Ruger on his own.

DeSantis' father holds a firefighter or paramedic role at Humane Fire Company in Royersford, Pa., sources say.

Sources say police are investigating who the gun belongs to and whether the gun was accessible to the boy.
