6 Cops Injured by 1 Man in Allentown Wawa

Police say the 22-year-old went crazy when they tried to arrest him in a crowded Wawa.

One Allentown police officer has staples in his head and five others are injured after attempting to arrest a man in Wawa early Wednesday morning, reports The Morning Call.

Police say they were trying to arrest 22-year-old Andrew McNair of Wilson for throwing a soda at a woman in the Wawa on Airport Road and Union Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. During the arrest he become very violent and angry, according to the paper.

The Morning Call reports that McNair, a 6-foot tall former football player, pushed officer Ronald Miller and two others. Cops say he elbowed a fourth officer in the face and then proceeded to slam Miller into a doughnut stand causing him to hit his head and black out.

According to the paper, it took additional officers, pepper spray and police weapons to bring McNair down -- a task made even harder by the mob of nearly 200 people watching, yelling and throwing objects at the arresting officers. The Wawa is a popular hangout spot for locals leaving a nearby club.

McNair was sent to Lehigh County Prison. His bail is $500,000.

Officer Miller was treated at Cedar Crest and released.
