6-Alarm Fire Rips Through Camden Warehouse

The fire at Magnetic Metals Corporation was declared under control by fire officials just before 3 a.m.

Fire crews have been working to extinguish a 6-alarm fire that began just before 11 Monday night at a commercial building on Hayes Ave. and 21st St. in Camden.

The fire began in a unoccupied section of Magnetic Metals Corporation, but that doesn't mean that the more than 70 employees working in a different area when the flames broke out were unaffected.

"You couldn't see anything. It was totally acrid. You had to put your shirt up over [your nose] and walk towards where you could see some light and that was it," employee Kevin Carr told NBC10's Byron Scott.

Emergency officials warned nearby residents to stay inside and keep windows and doors closed to avoid exposure to smoke or any chemicals that may have been released.

The 6-alarmer was declared under control by fire officials at 2:49 a.m.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
