Five people are in the hospital after a car accident on I-95 in Delaware.
It happened Saturday shortly before 4:30 a.m. in Wilmington. Police say James McGlaughlin, 19, of Chesapeake City, Maryland was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile in the left hand lane of I-95 southbound approaching Silverside Road. For an unknown reason, McGlaughlin’s vehicle suddenly swerved off the west edge of the road and traveled up an embankment, according to investigators.
The vehicle struck several trees before overturning onto its roof. McGlaughlin was removed from the scene and treated at Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Four passengers in his vehicle were also removed from the scene and taken to Christiana Hospital where they were treated for serious injuries. Those passengers are Elicia Delk, 20, of Elkton, Maryland, Morgan Delk, 21, of Elkton, Maryland, Danielle Flanigan, 19, of Newark, Delaware and Melissa Colligan, 20, of Elkton, Maryland.
Police say alcohol is being considered as a factor in the crash though this has not been confirmed. Southbound I-95 was closed for an hour and a half as the crash was investigated and cleared.
