40 Rabbits Rescued From Feces-Covered Barn

Animal welfare officials say they rescued 40 rabbits from filthy conditions at a barn in central Pennsylvania.

The Lycoming County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reports officers also found about 10 dead bunnies at the property in Clinton Township.

SPCA chief humane officer Lawrence Woltz says several inches of rabbit feces covered the barn floor. He says some rabbit corpses were found in a pile, while others were still locked in cages.

Woltz tells the Williamsport Sun-Gazette that the unnamed owner will face charges of animal cruelty.

Woltz says the agency searched the property Thursday after receiving a tip from two women who visited the breeder to buy a pet.
