Man Allegedly Fighting With Woman Shoots 4 of Her Family Members, Killing 1, Police Say

'The boyfriend, we believe, is the gunman here,' police investigators say.

A man who allegedly was fighting with the mother of his children is suspected by police of shooting four men who attacked him, Philadelphia police said. One of those men died.

"The boyfriend, we believe, is the gunman here," Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives said.

The couple initially allegedly got in a physical fight Thursday in another neighborhood of Philadelphia. Instead of alerting police, the woman, who wasn't seriously injured, called family members. Six people in two cars, including the woman, went to the man's house on Dorel Street in Southwest Philadelphia at about 9:30 p.m., police said.

The 21-year-old suspect, who has not been identified, came out of his house and then allegedly got into a fistfight with one of the family members, police said.

"The boyfriend starts losing the fistfight," Walker said. "As a result of him losing that fight he does the stupid thing, pulls out a gun and starts firing," Walker said.

Officers rushed four men shot to Penn Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition. A 23-year-old died early Friday, police said. A 22-year-old remained in critical condition while another 22-year-old and a 32-year-old victim were upgraded to stable condition.

The suspected shooter fled the scene on foot. Police are searching for him.

Detectives didn't say if any of the victims were armed.
