4 Shot, Killed, 3 Injured in 5 City Bars

This weekend was a deadly one in Philadelphia.

Police in Philadelphia say four men were killed and three others wounded in shootings at five city bars over the weekend.

31-year-old Mikal Grant and a 42-year-old man were shot at about 1 a.m. Saturday in Scotty's Bar in South Philadelphia, according to police. Both men were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where Grant was pronounced dead about three hours later.

The second victim is in stable condition, reports the Philadelphia Daily News.

In the city's Frankford section, police say, that on Saturday 20-year-old Chris Spence was shot in the chest in the T&T Lounge after an altercation with another patron. He was taken to Aria Health-Frankford Campus, where he was pronounced dead at about 3:10 a.m.

"He had a great, big golden heart," Spence's grandmother Shirley Phelps-Pollard told the Daily News.

Friends of the victim told the Daily News that Spence was not drinking at the bar.

"My son was 20, he shouldn't have been in their," the victim's mother Javese Phelps-Washington told the paper.

In Northeast Philadelphia, police say 32-year-old Sean Flanagan was shot to death at about 4:20 a.m. Saturday after an altercation with a bouncer at Club Karma. According to authorities, Flanagan pulled a gun on the bouncer who responded by wrestling the gun away and shooting Flanagan. Police have deemed the shooting justifiable, says the Daily News.

The paper is also reporting that in Old City, two people were shot around 1 a.m. on Sunday outside Bleu Martini. A 29-year-old victim is in stable condition after being shot in the stomach. A second victim is in critical condition at Jefferson Hospital. Police do have a suspect in custody. 

Police say that 22-year-old Sherrief Watkins was shot and killed outside of the Off the Clock bar on 2nd Street in Olney. Watkins was rushed to the Albert Einstein Medical Center were he was pronounced dead around 1:40 early Sunday morning, according to the Daily News.
