State police were searching for someone who stole a truck and apparently drove it into a lake in rural western Pennsylvania, where it was found submerged.
Troopers from the Kittanning barracks believe whoever stole the truck from Keystone Country Concrete Foundations Inc. also drove it into Keystone Lake in Plumcreek Township, about 55 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The truck appeared to enter the water just off state Route 210.
Nothing was stolen from the truck, including aluminum frames loaded in its trailer.
Police believe the truck was stolen between 8:30 p.m. Monday and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday from the company's yard in Elderton.
"Somebody called state police at 1:30 in the morning and told them there were lights in the lake, but when they got there, the light was gone," said Chris Hannah, whose husband and son own the company. The truck was pulled from the lake, where it was submerged in about 15 feet of water Tuesday afternoon.
The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission controls the 850-acre lake and stocks it for fishing. State Department of Environmental Protection officials also were at the lake Wednesday investigating any environmental impact.
A thin sheen of oil or fuel could be seen on the surface of the lake before the truck was removed. A hazardous materials team was brought in to remove any pollutants, though authorities don't believe a large amount of oil or fuel got into the water.
Police estimate the truck weighed about 30 tons. The aluminum frames it carried are used to shape concrete foundations poured for homes.
