3 Hurt in Police-Involved Gunfight Outside Chester Bar

Three people — including 27 and 31 year old men — were sent to Crozer-Chester Medical Center with gunshot wounds

A gunfight between a group of people and police in Chester sent three people to the hospital with injuries overnight Sunday, police said.

The shootout happened just after 2 a.m. outside the Gold Room bar along the 500 block of Edgmont Avenue.

Chester Police Chief James Nolan said officers were overseeing the crowd at the bar as they left for the night when gunshots rang out.

People in the crowd began firing at one another, Nolan said.

Nolan said officers opened fire as well.

Three people — including 27 and 31 year old men — were sent to Crozer-Chester Medical Center with gunshot wounds, Nolan said. Their conditions were not immediately known.

A 27-year-old woman also suffered a minor cut to her neck, Nolan said. She was treated and released.

No officers were hurt.

Nolan could not say whether the victims were hit by police gunfire or from the other shooters.

As is customary with police involved shootings, the Delaware County District Attorney's Office has taken over the investigation.
