Three people were killed while two other people were injured in several shootings during a violent Sunday in Philadelphia.
A 23-year-old man was on the 800 block of North 39th Street in the Mantua neighborhood around 1:15 p.m. when a gunman opened fire. Raisheem Rochwell was shot multiple times throughout his body and pronounced dead a short time later.
Around 3:30 p.m., a 42-year-old man was found inside his South Ruby Street apartment in West Philadelphia shot twice in the abdomen, twice in the chest and once in the right jaw. Cornelius Fuller was pronounced dead at 4:07 p.m.
Then, a 21-year-old man was on the 2300 block of West Berks Street in North Philadelphia around 6:45 p.m. when a gunman opened fire. The man was shot once in the chest and once in the back. Robert Wood was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A 23-year-old man who was also on West Berks Street was shot once in the left bicep. He was listed in stable condition while under police guard at the hospital.
Finally, around 8:50 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot along the 5400 block of Morris Street in Germantown, police said. That man was treated for a gunshot wound to his right thigh at the hospital.
The three homicides mark 174 for the year so far in Philadelphia. The total number of homicide victims was up 26% from the same time last year and was the highest total in Philadelphia since 2007.
