3 Brothers Charged with Growing Marijuana

Delaware State Police have charged three brothers in connection with a marijuana growing operation at a Sussex County home.

Authorities say paramedics responded to a report of a possible overdose on the 2600 block of Cattail Lane in Long Neck Thursday and, upon their arrival, they spotted a grow operation and a handgun on the fireplace mantle.

While 24-year-old Zachary Zimmer was taken to Beebe Medical Center for treatment of ingestion of a pain medication, police say they obtained a search warrant.

Officers say the search turned up four guns with ammunition, more than 94 grams of suspected marijuana including equipment to grow the plants, drug paraphernalia and fireworks.

Zimmer's brothers, 32-year-old Kyle and 29-year-old Trevor, were at home at the time and were taken into custody, according to reports.

The three brothers were charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and other charges.

Police say Zachary began scratching off the pain medication from the Fentanyl patch, which is prescribed to Trevor. The 24-year-old man then began smoking the drug, which led to the overdose, according to authorities.

Officials say he is currently in stable condition at Beebe.
