From one second woman to another: congratulations.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman to serve on the nation's highest court, has sent a letter congratulating Karen Valihura, who was sworn in Friday as the second woman to serve on the Delaware Supreme Court
Valihura joins Carolyn Berger, the first woman to join Delaware's highest court, as part of the five-member group.
Berger, who joined the court in 1994, has announced she plans to retire in September. The justices are appointed to 12-year terms.
Before joining the Delaware Supreme Court, the 51-year-old Valihura was an attorney at the Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom firm in Wilmington. She replaces retiring Delaware Supreme Court Justice Jack Jacobs.
