Bail will remain at $2 million bail for a northern New Jersey man accused of severely beating his wife during an argument at their home this week.

The Record reports that Thomas Fabbricatore's lawyer, Frank Lucianna, called the bail amount "ridiculous" during a court hearing on Friday.

Lucianna said the 64-year-old Hackensack man did not intend to hurt his 58-year-old wife, saying she fell and hit her head on the floor when the couple pushed each other during a "domestic spat" on Tuesday.

But Bergen County prosecutors said the defense was downplaying the incident, noting that Elizabeth Fabbricatore remained on life support with a severe head injury.

They also said the evidence would show she had "suffered years of abuse" from her husband.
