20 Shootings in 30 Days in Trenton

Police make 41 arrests over the weekend

Bullets have been flying in New Jersey's capital city.

Trenton police made 41 arrests between Friday and Sunday after a spike in violent crime was punctuated by 20 shootings in the last 30 days.

Officers executed search warrants, conducted DWI patrols, and stopped people and vehicles as part of “Operation Send a Message.”

Police have responded to 503 shots fired calls this year.

Forty-two people were shot in Trenton between January and mid-August 2010 compared to 82 victims during the same period this year.

Acting Police Director Joseph Juniak told The Times of Trenton the focus will continue to be violent offenders even as the department faces the layoffs of 108 officers next month.
