2 Tried to Steal $1,200 Worth of Teeth Whiteners

State police are seeking a couple seen on surveillance video before they tried to steal $1,200 worth of teeth whiteners from a western Pennsylvania store.

Authorities say such thefts are becoming common. They believe that's because the thieves can easily re-sell the products and possibly use the money to buy drugs.

Police on Wednesday publicized the case at a Target store in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, because they've been unable to identify the suspects.

Police say the couple tried to steal the items on Oct. 27, but were stopped by the store's loss prevention staff about 2:40 p.m. that day.

Police say the employees seized the woman's purse, which contained the teeth whiteners, as the couple fled. The man fought with employees before the couple drove away in a compact silver sedan.
