2 Philadelphians Manufactured, Sold Conterfeit SEPTA Passes: Feds

Federal authorities are accusing two Philadelphia residents of manufacturing and selling counterfeit SEPTA TransPasses for nearly two years.

Thirty-five-year-old Mark Cooper was charged Wednesday with committing access-device fraud and possession of equipment to make access devices.

Prosecutors say Cooper produced the phony passes with equipment purchased online and a woman would sell them at City Hall and other locations for $50 each.

A TransPass enables a rider to board SEPTA buses, trolleys and subway trains.

Officials estimate Cooper sold more than 2,000 bogus passes from Aug. 2013 to June, mostly to city employees.

Cooper pleaded not guilty.
