Two Newark residents face charges in the death of a man who was shot and killed last month while driving on an interstate highway in northern New Jersey.
State police say 25-year-old Mujahideen Abdullah of Newark fired the shots that killed 39-year-old Jeff Mansilla of Hackensack.
They say the shooting occurred June 12 on eastbound Interstate 80 in Saddle Brook, shortly after the two men and 28-year-old Jomaris Gonzalez had argued at a strip club in Belleville.
Mansilla left the club and drove off with two passengers, but authorities say Abdullah and Gonzalez followed them in their vehicle. Abdullah soon fired several shots through the open passenger side window of Mansilla's sport utility vehicle, striking Mansilla in the hip.
Mansilla was able to drive off the highway and switch places with a passenger, who drove him to a hospital. But Mansilla was pronounced dead there a short time later.
Bail was set at $2 million cash for Abdullah, who is charged with murder, weapons and drug offenses and hindering apprehension. Gonzalez was charged with drug offenses and hindering apprehension, and her bail was set at $250,000 cash.
Both Abdullah and Gonzalez were arrested Friday at their home. It was not known Saturday if either one had retained a lawyer.
No other injuries were reported in the shooting.
Authorities have not said what spurred the argument at the strip club.
