Man Fatally Shot by NJ Police Officer

The shooting happened at the Willis Honda Dealership in Burlington Township.

A man is dead following a police-involved shooting near a New Jersey car dealership late Monday night.

The shooting happened just beyond the parking lot of the Willis Honda dealership on 1200 block of N. Route 130 in Burlington Township.

Police say that just before midnight, a Burlington City patrolman attempted to stop a suspicious person walking near the dealership. A foot chase ensued, leading the men to an overgrown lot near Willis Honda.

It was there that the suspect fired at the officer, according to police. The patrolman returned fire, fatally striking the man, investigators said in a press release.

The officer from the incident was taken to Lourdes Medical Center for chest pains, a hospital representative said. That officer was evaluated and released.

He has been placed on administrative leave pending an full investigation into the shooting.

Police have not released the name of the suspect.
