2 Killed in Philly Apartment Fire

Both residents killed in the Oxford Avenue fire used wheelchairs

Two people are dead following an apartment fire that began at 6451 Oxford Ave. in Philadelphia 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Both residents killed in the fire used wheelchairs.

Lynn Scripnicencu, 56, and Gerald Hooper, 75, were found dead in the first floor apartment after firefighters got the blaze under control 9:27 a.m.

About 20 residents were evacuated from the building in time. A maintenance worker was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

Investigators say Scripnicencu was found unconscious near the door of the first-floor apartment in Northeast Philadelphia. She was transported dead at a hospital.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
