2 Dems Eye US House Seat Being Vacated by Gerlach

At least two Democrats are eyeing the U.S. House seat that's being vacated by veteran Republican Jim Gerlach.

Mike Parrish, a businessman and retired Army officer from Chester County, announced his campaign Tuesday, while state Rep Mark Rozzi of Berks County said he has formed an exploratory committee for a potential bid for the seat.

Gerlach, a sixth-term lawmaker who's among a shrinking number of Republican moderates, announced Jan. 6 that he will retire at the end of his current term in January 2015.

Congressional redistricting changes that took effect in 2012 resulted in Republican gains and Democratic losses in voter registration in the 6th district, which takes in parts of Chester, Montgomery, Berks and Lebanon counties.
